Searching for insulation problems? Electrical problems? Or you just want to fool around with thermal imaging (like myself)? Take a look at the new Flir One Pro thermal camera addon for iPhone or Android.
A thermal camera shows the temperature in stuff around you in a color indicating the temperature. This can be very helpful in a lot of situations. For DIY, where you want to check for insulation problems, or if you want to make sure your electrical system isn't overloaded and thus getting hot. Of course it's also a lot of fun to play around with.
Flir is a company that has been making thermal camera's for quite a while. A couple of years ago, they launched the Flir One: a thermal camera that could be attached to any iPhone or Android device. Gadgetgeek as I am, it didn't take me long to buy one. Not that I had any particular use for it, but it's just very interesting to see the heat around you.
The Flir One is incredibly accurate. It shows very small temperature differences. For example, if you put your hand down on a table and leave it there for a couple of seconds only, the Flir One can show you the heat that your hand left behind.
It also gives a great view of your laptop while working on it.
Now recently, Flir launched the Flir One Pro. As the name suggests, it's aimed at professionals, but that won't stop the real gadgetgeeks between us.
Flir throws in all kind of marketing terms like VividIR to promote the Flir One Pro, but in the end, if you look at the images below, you'll notice the difference right away. The resolution of the Flir One Pro is simply much higher, so more detail is visible.
I might end up buying myself the Flir One Pro...
